Making New With The Old: Junk De Luxe

11.18.09

Sometimes the most successful people become so my using their creativity to make something from nothing. This applies to everything from business to fashion. The Junk De Luxe story is one example of a clothing company that was able to do just that.

Thomas Gundorph established the Denmark company in 1986. At the time all that he had available to work with were second hand denim jeans imported from the United States. Like the Edwin clothing Company did in the 60’s they were able to start with used denim and eventually begin to manufacture their own. Gundorph was able to combine and merge the different fabrics and pieces from various styles to create unique and original pieces.

In 1992 the first Junk De Luxe clothing collection hit the market and the company has been a major designer in Europe ever since. Their styles are focused around combining different pieces from different styles together to create new and original looks. Each individual piece is able o stand on its own rather than be part of another trend or style.

Many different items from their catalog represent their company goal such as the Alberin Polo and Preston 3 color cardigan. Both items are designed to have the combined from other cuts and fabrics to make one cohesive piece. The individual pieces are cut clearly and combined in a natural way to make each item stand on its own.
